The National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA) recently organised a meeting on the draft National Technical Guidelines (NTG) for Improved Watershed Management under the REWARD Programme.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the framework for scientific watershed management, climate resilience and improved livelihoods in rainfed agricultural areas.
About REWARD Programme
- Full Form: REWARD stands for Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development.
- Nature: It is a watershed development programme focused on improving watershed management practices.
- Implementing States: The programme is being implemented in Karnataka and Odisha.
- Time Period: 2021 to 2026.
- Assistance: It is supported by the World Bank.
- Nodal Focus: It aims to introduce modern and science-based watershed practices in the Department of Land Resources and participating States.
- Financial Instrument: It works through PforR — Programme for Results, where the World Bank reimburses funds based on achievement of Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs).
- Main Objective: To strengthen national and state institutions for adopting improved watershed management, increasing farmers’ resilience and supporting value chains in selected watersheds.
