Prime Minister's Call for a Drug-Free India as 100-Week 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” on August 2, 2026.

About the Campaign

It is a nationwide youth-led campaign aimed at preventing substance abuse and building a physically fit, mentally strong and self-confident generation for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The initiative began as a pilot project in Kashi and was subsequently expanded into a national movement with the participation of spiritual organisations, NGOs, educational institutions and youth volunteers.

• Promote healthy lifestyles: Encourage physical fitness, mental well-being, meditation and constructive activities.
• Mobilise youth: Make young citizens active participants in spreading the message of a drug-free India.

• Support Viksit Bharat: Preserve the energy, talent and productivity of India’s youth for national development.

Key Features

• 100-week campaign: Anti-drug activities will be organised every Sunday for the next 100 weeks.
• Community-based activities: Programmes will include sports, art, culture, meditation, spirituality and social service.
• Mass participation: Students, NSS members, MY Bharat volunteers, educational institutions and community organisations will participate.
• Kashi Declaration: The campaign is supported by a framework developed through consultations with leading spiritual organisations.
• Institutional support: More than 125 spiritual organisations and several NGOs are associated with the initiative.
• Campus awareness: Colleges and universities have been encouraged to incorporate discussions on drug abuse and organise anti-drug campaigns.
• Youth pledge: Participants committed themselves to remaining drug-free and spreading awareness in schools, colleges and communities.

Role of MY Bharat- MY Bharat serves as a youth-engagement platform for volunteering, leadership, mentorship and national service. It has connected more than 2.23 crore youth and is supporting sustained participation in the anti-drug campaign.

Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation

The campaign emphasises open communication within families, early medical intervention, counselling, yoga, meditation and access to rehabilitation centres. It also calls for treating recovering addicts with dignity and providing them opportunities to reintegrate into society rather than subjecting them to stigma.

Government Measures

The government has highlighted stronger action against drug traffickers and smugglers through increased arrests, seizures and enforcement operations. The campaign combines such supply-side enforcement with demand-reduction measures based on awareness, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

The initiative seeks to transform the fight against substance abuse into a Jan Bhagidari movement. By combining law enforcement, youth participation, family support, education and rehabilitation, it aims to protect individuals and families while strengthening India’s human capital for the goal of a developed India.
